Real Madrid legend now wants to stay at the club, he's rejected two offers to leave

Real Madrid now have a decision to make ahead of the summer transfer window, as midfielder Luka Modric has now expressed his desire to stay.

Modric is out of contract at the end of the season, and the 38-year-old is no longer a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu under Carlo Ancelotti. However, this does not mean he cannot be useful.

The Real Madrid legend was linked with a move to MLS clubs, but he has now confirmed that if Los Blancos are willing to keep him, that his intention is to stay put for another year.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Luka Modric desire to stay at Real Madrid

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Modric has told Real Madrid that he wants to stay at the club, and that wages are unimportant to him.

“Luka Modrić has informed Real Madrid of his desire to stay at the club and sign new contract. It’s not about the salary, Modrić told Real Madrid of his intention to stay. Modrić has rejected already two big proposals to wait for Real. Up to Real Madrid now,” he posted on X.

Modric is still capable of playing at a high level, but not as a regular starter any more given his age, and he must be prepared to accept a backup role.

With Endrick and possibly Kylian Mbappe set to join in the summer, competition for places in the Real Madrid squad will become a lot more fierce.

Young sensations such as Arda Guler will need more playing time at the club, and one possible fear is that keeping Modric could reduce his potential game time.

However, given his desire to stay, one more year of having Modric around the younger players could be very useful, and he has shown that he is still capable of performing in high-pressure matches.
