Arsenal duo set for Everton farewells as Arteta identifies 10-goal target

A round-up of the latest Arsenal news as Mikel Arteta identifies a 10-goal target and two Gunners get set to bid goodbye to Emirates Stadium against Everton on Sunday.

Aaron Ramsdale has ‘agreed to join’ Newcastle United

Outcast Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has already ‘agreed to join’ Newcastle United in the summer transfer sales. That is according to Sky Sports reporter James Green, who says Ramsdale’s agent has privately confirmed the 26-year-old’s move to St James’ Park is ‘done’.

The arrival of David Raya at Emirates Stadium raised question marks about Ramsdale’s place in north London. He was Arsenal’s No1 for the previous two seasons and even made the PFA Team of the Year for 2022/23. But Mikel Arteta felt Raya would offer an upgrade in their net.

Raya ousted Ramsdale following the September international break and has since started all 31 available Premier League games. Arteta has only recalled Ramsdale for Arsenal’s matches with Brentford with Raya ineligible to face his parent club after moving in an initial loan deal.

Mikel Arteta adds Raphinha to Arsenal’s transfer shortlist

Mikel Arteta has added FC Barcelona winger Raphinha to his shortlist for attacking transfers at Arsenal this summer. That is according to GiveMeSport, which reports that Arsenal might look to rival interest from Newcastle United with the Blaugrana possibly needing to cash in.

The Camp Nou natives are still struggling to get their finances in order and may have to sell Raphinha. He is loath to leave the Catalan giants and will strive to stay put. But Arsenal and Newcastle may test Raphinha’s resolve with Arteta and Eddie Howe looking to sign wingers.

Arteta has not made Raphinha a priority option at Emirates Stadium and will only explore a deal if Arsenal fail to get his top targets. But Arteta is a long-term fan of the 27-year-old and is open to revisiting his interest. Raphinha has 10 goals and 12 assists in 36 games this term.

Arsenal host Everton on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday but will also say goodbye to Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports the defender and midfielder will say their farewells and depart as free agents.

Elneny is the longest-serving player remaining at Emirates Stadium, having joined Arsenal in January 2016 from FC Basel. Arsene Wenger signed the Egyptian to add depth to their core. But the 31-year-old never established a greater presence and has not played since February.

The midfielder has endured a nightmare with injuries in recent seasons and has only played six games this season for 95 minutes. Elneny further only featured eight times last term and 17 times in 2021/22. Cedric has only played five fixtures this term after falling out of favour.
