1260 Squadron Newark and District Air Cadets to hold open evening to attract new recruits

An established squadron of air cadets is set to hold an open evening in a bid to recruit more members.

1260 Squadron Newark and District Air Cadets is open to boys and girls aged 12 to 17 and in year eight or over.

Potential new recruits, along with their parents, are encouraged to come along and find out more about joining the active group at an open evening on Tuesday, May 21.

Cadet Warrant Officer James Williams said: “We meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening and there is something happening most weekends. We get the opportunity to go flying and gliding, take part in the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme, go on adventure training weekends and, in school holidays, week long camps as well as taking part in parades on occasions like Remembrance Sunday.

“On top of all this we make new friends and get to have fun.”

Commanding Officer, Flight Lieutenant Darrell Reid added: “This is a perfect opportunity for both parents and potential cadets to explore what the Royal Air Force Air Cadets can provide. Our aims are to promote an interest in aviation, provide training useful for both service and civilian life and to foster the spirit of adventure.”

The open evening will take place at the Cadet Centre, Sherwood Avenue, Newark, on Tuesday, May 21, from 7.30pm.
