‘Outstanding’: Kieran Gibbs says £27m Arsenal player has been even better than Martin Odegaard this year

It will be very difficult for Arsenal to crown a Player of the Season this year.

In a year where Arsenal have played so well, there are numerous players who could be considered Player of the Year contenders.

The likes of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka would be worthy contenders, but according to Kieran Gibbs, speaking on ESPN, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba are the two frontrunners for this award this season.

Interestingly, Gibbs picked Saliba just ahead of Martin Odegaard as his Arsenal Player of the Year.

William Saliba has been Arsenal’s best player this season

Gibbs spoke about the £27m man and his performances this term.

“That’s a tough one. It’s going to be between Odegaard and Saliba. I think I would go Saliba purely because I think probably the centre-half position has been such a big, not issue for Arsenal, but we have been waiting a long time for a centre-half like Saliba to come in, and I think he has completely reformed the defence.

“I think he has been absolutely outstanding and he is young. He has got such a long career ahead of him hopefully at Arsenal. I would edge him over Martin Odegaard.”

William Saliba has been exceptional

It’s tough to say whether or not Saliba has been better than Odegaard because they’re such different players, but one thing is for sure, Saliba has been exceptional this season.

The Frenchman has barely put a foot wrong, and his great performances at the back have massively helped Arsenal in their push for the Premier League title.

Saliba may not get the credit he deserves in terms of individual awards due to the fact he’s a defender, but make no mistake about it, he’s one of the Gunners’ most important players.

Arsenal are very lucky to have Saliba, that’s for sure.
