Report: Wolves now want to sign 'outstanding' defender, more assists than Cunha and Sarabia this season

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing a wing-back with more assists than Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia this season.

An interesting summer is set to develop at Molineux as Gary O’Neil expects Wolves to sell some of their star assets before they can buy.

O’Neil’s attention will turn to the transfer window after their final Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday, with the 41-year-old desperate to bolster his depleted squad.

A striker to provide competition for Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan has been firmly on the agenda for a while. The Old Gold have been linked with Southampton’s Che Adams and Chelsea’s Armando Broja.

Another area that Wolves will consider investing in is at left wing-back. Rayan Ait-Nouri has flourished in an attacking role as part of the front three, so O’Neil has often used Matt Doherty in that position, or Hugo Bueno.

If the Wolves manager sees Ait-Nouri’s permanent position being in attack, a new left-back is required.

Wolves want to sign Luton Town’s Alfie Doughty

Despite putting up a strong fight, Luton Town are all but relegated to the Championship, so other Premier League clubs are sniffing around at some of their most talented players.

Wing-back Alfie Doughty is the player attracting most attention, as according to GIVEMESPORT, Wolves and West Ham have joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign him.

The “outstanding” 24-year-old has wreaked havoc against opposition defences with his wand of a left foot and during his time in the Premier League, he’s recorded an impressive eight assists in 36 appearances.

Doughty has utilised his ability to fashion a yard of space and whip devastating balls into the box, particularly catching the eye against Sheffield United, where he made a whopping nine key passes in a 3-1 defeat.

With his contract expiring this summer, Wolves could be potentially getting a bargain if they manage to land the talented wing-back.

Alfie Doughty has more assists than Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia

Doughty has taken the Premier League by storm and his impressive tally of eight assists is more than Matheus Cunha (7) and Pablo Sarabia (7).

Sarabia is regarded as one of the most creative players in the division as he leads Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer for chances created per 90.

Considering Doughty plays in a deeper position and is responsible for more defending, the fact he’s delivered such strong output down the left is impressive, and his other attacking metrics support that claim.

Doughty’s main strength, as evinced by the table, is an ability to get into crossing positions and deliver a dangerous ball into the box, either from a set-piece or open play.

Wolves currently lack someone on the left side and from a set-piece who can provide ammunition to the forward players.

Doughty is someone who has been doing that all season for Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo, so imagine the service he’d give to the likes of Hwang, Cunha and Pedro Neto – it would be mouth-watering.
