Report: Newcastle are currently exploring a move for a striker Alan Shearer says is 'brilliant'

Newcastle United’s forward line may be getting some work this summer.

While Eddie Howe’s side have been full of goals this season – with only Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool scoring more than Newcastle’s 81 – it seems like it could soon be the end of the road for some of their players.

Callum Wilson, after all, is reportedly looking to leave St James’ Park this summer.

Miguel Almiron is another to have been touted for an exit, with clubs in Saudi Arabia said to be keen on a move for him.

Indeed, it seems as if the frontline could be rejuvenated.

Alexander Isak is reportedly the player Howe wants to build around for years to come and Yankuba Minteh may get a chance to impress but Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes are perhaps the only other forward players who are guaranteed game time next season.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, attacking names are being linked to the club.

One of those is a player Alan Shearer rates very highly indeed.

Newcastle are now exploring a move for a striker Alan Shearer says is “brilliant”

Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth has long been linked with a move to Newcastle, having worked with Howe on the south coast.

The one-cap England international has enjoyed a fine season with the Cherries, scoring 19 Premier League goals.

In fact, only Isak, Cole Palmer and Erling Haaland have bagged more.

According to Sport Lens, Solanke – who has been hailed as “brilliant” by Shearer – is a target currently being explored by Newcastle.

There are said to be “whispers” a move could open up for him but Solanke is reportedly unlikely to agitate for a move, such is happiness at Bournemouth.

Dominic Solanke looks the ideal replacement for Callum Wilson

Only Shearer (148) has scored more than Wilson (47) in the Premier League for Newcastle, so the potentially outgoing England international certainly deserves respect.

However, now 32 and having seemingly constant injury issues, Solanke would be a far longer-term option for the club at the age of 26.

Having only missed 9 games through injury over the past four years, he certainly looks more durable too.
