Report: After sealing UEFA Champions League spot, Aston Villa could now sign Tottenham's No.1 summer target

After beating Spurs to the final UEFA Champions League spot, Aston Villa could now sign Tottenham’s No.1 summer transfer target.

Ange Postecoglou‘s north Londoners can only finish as high as fifth in the Premier League this season, after Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City sealed a place in Europe’s greatest club competition for the Villans.

Now – as Unai Emery aims to prepare his side for the UEFA Champions League – Aston Villa could beat Tottenham to a key target…

Aston Villa want to sign Conor Gallagher

A story from The Sun claims that Postecoglou is desperate to sign Chelsea No.23 Conor Gallagher this summer, and wants the England international in N17 as soon as the transfer window opens.

Dean Jones has also added that the Londoner is considered a “dream” signing for Spurs this summer.

However – according to the Telegraph – Aston Villa are now expressing a desire to sign Gallagher.

It is said that Chelsea and Aston Villa boast a strong relationship at boardroom level.

The Telegraph add that Gallagher and Chelsea are yet to make any progress in discussions over a new contract, with the 24-year-old soon entering the final 12 months of his current terms.

Furthermore, Spurs are described as the side who did lead the race to sign the Chelsea academy graduate, although it is strongly implied that Aston Villa’s UEFA Champions League qualification has put the Villans in a stronger position.

Alternative for Tottenham

If Spurs do end up missing out on Gallagher this summer, there is another midfielder who has been strongly linked – Crystal Palace No.10 Ebere Eze.

A story from the Independent back in February claimed that the England international is high on Tottenham’s shortlist, as Postecoglou aims to make a statement signing in the summer transfer window.

Eze – who scored a stunning freekick against Spurs in March – was even said to have been given a box by Spurs for his entourage that day, adding fuel to the fire.

Therefore, if Aston Villa do land Gallagher, the Crystal Palace star could be signed instead.
