Ukraine has prospects for a new counteroffensive. But first, it needs to stabilize the front and stop Russia's offensive, states Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"There are prospects. First of all, we need to stabilize the situation at the frontline. Now it is unstable. Now it is their turn. They have to be stopped. We will stop them, and then we need to have the appropriate staffing of brigades to count on the next steps, counter-offensive, etc.", the Head of State said.

When asked whether there would be a counteroffensive by the Armed Forces in 2025, Zelenskyy answered: "I can't say. But I know (when it will be - ed.), but I can't (say - ed.)."

Situation at the frontline

In 2022, Ukraine conducted several major offensive operations. They helped push Russian troops back from Kyiv and liberate northern Ukraine, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions.

In 2023, Ukraine was preparing a new counteroffensive that began in the summer. However, it failed to achieve the desired results. The Armed Forces faced strong enemy defenses in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

The situation at the front is currently tense. The occupiers are attacking in several directions at once. Russian troops are trying to break through the Ukrainian defense near Avdiivka and capture Chasiv Yar in the Bakhmut sector. This will allow them to advance deeper into the Donetsk region.

In addition, the Russians launched an offensive in the north of the Kharkiv region. The enemy's advance has been stopped, but fighting continues.
