Carlo Ancelotti says he's 'optimistic' that two Real Madrid superstars will stay at club

Real Madrid face a busy summer transfer window as top talents will join what is already an outstanding first-team squad.

Brazilian sensation Endrick looks set to be joined by Kylian Mbappe as Real Madrid flex their muscles in the transfer window, but there is still an internal issue to address.

Carlo Ancelotti values the experienced members of his squad highly, but is set to lose defender and captain Nacho, who will leave the club after 23 years.

There is still uncertainty over the futures of superstars Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, but Modric has expressed a desire to stay at the club, and Ancelotti has now given an update on the midfield pair.

Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at Real Madrid

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s La Liga clash with Villarreal, Ancelotti expressed his desire to keep both veteran midfielders at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

“I am always optimistic”. “I’ve never had any problem with Modrić, we really respect each other. He’s a top guy, top player”. “My feeling with Kroos is also excellent so we are really happy”.

Although some may argue that keeping a 38-year-old Modric for another season could block the pathway of young talents such as Arda Guler, the experience and quality he brings to the dressing room is invaluable, and keeping him for another year could be beneficial for the club.

Modric wants to stay, and he has earned the right to ask for a new contract given his immense contributions in nearly 12 years at the club.

Kroos is still performing to a world-class level, with his performances as a starter particularly standing out in the Champions League, and if he is keen to stay, giving him a new contract would be a no-brainer.

Real Madrid do have younger options such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga waiting in the wings, but Kroos has shown that he is still capable of starting most games next season despite his age, and both he and Modric can help the younger stars such as Endrick settle down at the club.
