Xavi now breaks his silence following reports of surprise Barcelona departure

Surprise reports have emerged in the past two days which claim that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez will depart the club imminently.

Xavi is having a difficult time at the club, and recent reports claimed that he had sensationally been dismissed from his role, just weeks after agreeing to stay for another season.

Xavi had announced his intention to step down in January, but performed a u-turn on his decision to stay for at least one more year.

Barcelona are facing financial difficulties, and Xavi bemoaned the lack of spending power the club will have in the summer.

This led to reports that Joan Laporta was unhappy with the former midfielder and was prepared to dismiss him, with Rafa Marquez a potential candidate to replace him.

However, Xavi has now dismissed the rumours surrounding his exit, and claimed that he has the full backing of the Barcelona board.

Xavi denies rumours of Barcelona dismissal

Speaking ahead of Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga fixture, Xavi claimed that he is happy to continue at the club despite the difficulties he is facing.

“I have zero doubts, really. I’m hungry, I’m confident, I’m proud to be in my the club of my life and I’m happy to compete at the best level for next season,” he stated.

“Nothing has changed. I like the team, we’ve lot of top players, many from La Masia, it’s all clear”.

“The President Laporta has sent me positive messages, nothing else. Full focus on tomorrow’s game.

“I feel good, I’m happy, it’s great to be Barça manager as it’s the best club in the world”. “I’m sure things can go very well in the future for our project”.

Barcelona urgently need to address Xavi situation

It is clear that there are disagreements at board level between Xavi and members of the Blaugrana hierarchy. The signing of Vitor Roque appears to be one approved by Deco, but against the wishes of Xavi, and the striker looks set to depart in the summer.

Right now, the uncertainty of Xavi’s future helps no one. Barcelona need to back him publicly and behind the scenes, and they also need to help him strengthen his squad in the summer window.

If the club intend to dismiss the midfield legend, then they will need to clarify their position as soon as possible, whilst other managers such as Roberto De Zerbi or Hansi Flick are still available before they move elsewhere, with Bayern Munich also searching for a new head coach.
