Rudy Giuliani, the former lawyer for ex-President Donald Trump, was informed on May 17 of charges related to an alleged scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Arizona in favor of Trump, according to Axios.
Giuliani was served with the charges during the celebration of his 80th birthday in Palm Beach, Florida. He is the latest individual to be indicted in the case.
Fifth charge in the case of attempting to disrupt the election
At the end of April, an Arizona Grand Jury accused 18 of Trump’s associates for attempting to disrupt the 2020 presidential election. Among the accused are former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Boris Epshteyn.
The indictment includes charges of conspiracy, fraud, and document forgery. Trump is named as a co-conspirator but has not been charged.
The co-conspirators allegedly planned to prevent the transfer of presidential power to Joe Biden to keep Trump in office against the will of the voters.
Previously, similar charges were brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith and the prosecutors of Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada.
Meadows and Giuliani have pleaded not guilty.
