The German Ministry of Defense has informed the federal government of an additional need for 3.8 billion euros to assist Ukraine for the current fiscal year, according to Bild.

Bild reports that Germany has provided Kyiv with 7.1 billion euros in military aid this year. The sum is used to pay for military goods that Ukraine buys directly from the industry. The funds will also be used to finance reorders of weapons that the Bundeswehr has transferred to the Ukrainian army.

However, Ukraine urgently needs increased support for effective defense against the Russian army.

According to Bild, the Ministry of Defense has informed the government of an additional need for 3.8 billion euros to assist Ukraine for the current fiscal year.

On Wednesday, the head of the department, Boris Pistorius, discussed the issue with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Additional expenses are to be submitted to parliament for approval in June, including counter-financing.

The Ministry of Finance, according to Bild, approves this proposal of the defense department.

In addition, Bild sources report that for 2025, the Ministry of Defense has allocated a record amount of 15 billion euros in aid to Ukraine.

On May 17, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that Ukraine needs more long-range weapons to repel Russia's advance in the northern Kharkiv region, where the situation around the country's second-largest city remains very dramatic.

Scholz still refuses to provide Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles.

However, he recently decided to transfer a third Patriot system to Ukraine.
