'No doubt': Liverpool doing work on £60m player who is presumed to be moving to Juventus - journalist

Following the conclusion of Liverpool’s Premier League season, all eyes will be on the transfer market.

The Reds do of course still have one game to play in 2023/24. It’s a big one too, as Jurgen Klopp says farewell to the club he’s transformed since 2015.

Following one of the best managers in Liverpool history is not going to be easy, and Arne Slot is the man tasked with drinking from that potentially poisoned chalice.

If Slot is going to succeed, then he’s going to need a little help re-shaping the Liverpool squad. Thankfully with Richard Hughes set to arrive with a big reputation as sporting director and Michael Edwards back in place, the new boss will have a crack team behind him.

Centre-back appears to be an area of priority for the Reds, with the forward line set to be upgraded, too. But according to journalist Graeme Bailey speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, Liverpool are also ‘doing their homework’ on a possible new midfielder.

Liverpool doing homework on Teun Koopmeiners

Although they added four last year, there feels to be still room for another midfielder in the Liverpool squad.

And with that in mind, the Reds have been heavily linked with Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners.

Asked if there could be a move to Liverpool in the offing for the Dutchman though, Bailey says the expectation is that Koopmeiners will move to Juventus. However, that hasn’t stopped the Reds from taking a look.

“I think he’s one who will no doubt they’ll be doing their work on, I think they’ll be aware of,” says the reporter.

“From speaking to contacts in Italy they think he’s going to Juventus, which is ironic as that’s who they were playing in that game [Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final].

“I think he will be a legitimate option for them if that’s the way they wanted to go but obviously we’ll have to see how it transpires. I think they’re just doing their homework really but he’s someone they’ve looked at before. I think he’s a very interesting player.”

How much would Teun Koopmeiners cost Liverpool?

In our opinion, Liverpool could do with a slightly more defensive-minded midfielder than Koopmeiners.

Nevertheless, the 26-year-old showed his quality during Atalanta’s Europa League win over the Reds in April. Liverpool were said to be impressed by his displays against them.

In the midst of a good season in Italy, Koopmeiners would reportedly set the Reds back £60m this summer.

With other areas of the squad in need of a little surgery, that would seem like a bit too much from our point of view.

Slot has worked with Koopmeiners before though, and could possibly push for the move. If all are in agreement, Liverpool appear to have already gathered all the information they need.
