Rangers 'keen' on 19-goal international striker, Koppen has to move fast

Rangers will have to shop clever when the transfer window opens with Philippe Clement hoping to secure upgrades all over the pitch.

As seen against Hearts once again, a more clinical forward line is a must if the Scottish Premiership title is to make its way back to Ibrox next season.

Oscar Cortes looks to be returning to the club and hopes of a permanent deal for Abdallah Sima are also high, but Rangers fans can dust off the disappointing league campaign with news of a new striker attracting the manager’s attention.

Rangers named in chase for on-fire hitman Albion Rrahmani

According to Kosovan football site @kosovanfooty_EN on X, the Light Blues are being linked with a prolific bagsman.

At 23-years old, striker Albion Rrahmani is being considered for a summer move after starring for Romanian outfit Rapid Bucharest.

With 19 goals and five assists in 29 appearances, Rrahmani has been sensational since signing from Kosovan outfit FC Ballkani for around £500,000.

To get an idea of the 4-times capped international’s style of play, think Gers-linked Bojan Miovski, but younger and a better ball carrier and he ticks a lot of boxes.

Speaking just a couple of days ago, Philippe Clement explained the sort of profile that he is looking for in what is going to be a testing window with a restricted budget:

“We know we have less money than our competition because they have more money and they have Champions League money now. So, we need to be more inventive, the recruitment needs to be more inventive.

“If your opponent has more money and can spend more you have to work better. That needs to be the challenge to make things better. We have to find better players for cheaper prices.

“It’s not always the player that costs more who at the end has the highest value.”

The final sentence is one that Rangers will be hoping to get right.

Rangers will have to move fast for Rrahmani

At 6ft 2 inches tall, Rrahmani can more than look after himself physically.

Unlike Cyriel Dessers when he dribbles, the Kosovan carries the ball with a purpose and is elusive rather than not looking entirely sure like he knows what he is doing with the ball.

He can also finish with both feet and is strong in the air.

What’s not to like?

The problem, and it’s a big one, is that Napoli, Benfica and Aston Villa are also sniffing about.

Rangers don’t exactly have a blank cheque for the summer business so, having to compete with teams from top five teams and big spenders like Benfica is almost impossible.

Nils Koppen, if Rrahmani is a target, will have to move quickly.

Clubs like to do their business early and it may be that Rapid want to cash in on their star man to fund their transfer window.

If it becomes a bidding war, Koppen will have to fold quickly.

It could be a long summer.
