TV millionnaire's holiday from hell left him 'fighting for his life'

Duncan Bannatyne, 75, was left fighting for his life this Spring after a holiday turned into a total nightmare. The Dragons’ Den star traveled to Mexico with his wife, Nigora Whitehorn, before enduring a near-death experience.

Many fans will recall Duncan from BBC’s Dragons’ Den. Although he’s no longer a star of the show these days, the businessman stacked up his millions appearing as an investor for 11 series. Series 12 saw Duncan depart and Touker Suleyman take his place.

Duncan’s near-death experience

Mexico is a hot spot for holidaymakers hoping to get some R and R. But, sadly for Dragons’ Den OG Duncan Bannatyne, his dream vacay turned into a nightmare this Spring, states an exclusive report from The Mirror.

Duncan jetted off to Mexico with his wife, Nigora, before he worryingly found himself in a “critical condition.”

The former BBC star was bitten by a dragonfly. The bite later became infected and Duncan suffered a potentially fatal allergic reaction.

He said: “I almost died in Mexico, just a few weeks ago…”

Duncan’s wife ‘called for help’

Thankfully, Duncan’s wife was on hand in his time of need.

The ex Dragons’ Den star who’s worth almost £300 million said:

“I got this infection in my hand. It was a bite and it’s swelling. There were seven couples and a woman said ‘You have to get a doctor’.”

He continued: “My wife phoned the doctor… I lay on the bed and he says he’s going to give me an injection because it’s a dragonfly. He injected me into my hip and I turn on my back.”

Duncan added how he then had a scary allergic reaction.

He explained how he “…was lying there, talking to his wife,” and had “this dryness come up through his esophagus.”

“I was so dry and I couldn’t speak. And my heart started – bump, bump bump bump bump, bump, bump.”

Thankfully, the doctor hadn’t left the room and Duncan was given “another injection and some pills.”

The experience sparked the dad of seven into action when it comes to getting a will drawn up, he told BBC Radio 4’s The Bottom Line: Decisions that Made Me a Leader podcast with Evan Davis he’s meeting someone this week to get things in place if the worst should happen.
