Report: Wolves now eyeing summer move for £10m relegated player Pep Guardiola once hailed 'brilliant'

Wolves are reportedly keeping tabs on Burnley goalkeeper Aro Muric, with Vincent Kompany potentially set to struggle to keep him this summer.

Wanderers are gearing up for a big summer, with fans optimistic that Fosun will provide strong backing for Gary O’Neil.

Supporters have watched Wolves’ season peter out a bit after a really promising start.

Ultimately, injuries have really taken their toll, with the small squad size really hampering O’Neil. There have also been a string of bad decisions going against the team and costing points.

So fans are really excited for the next transfer window – and one player Wolves are apparently looking at is the Burnley goalkeeper Aro Muric…

It has been reported today by journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon that Wolves are taking an interest in Aro Muric.

Apparently, Burnley are facing a big decision on him and James Trafford this summer, with Vincent Kompany having used both throughout 2023/24.

He will struggle to keep both players happy, so one could be on the move this summer.

Muric is the man who currently holds the number one jersey at Turf Moor. He replaced Trafford between the sticks for the game against Brentford on March 16, featuring every game since.

He is now being watched by Wolves and Celtic, but neither team will be able to get a particularly cheap deal here.

Despite Burnley’s relegation, they would apparently be seeking around £10 million to sell, having reportedly signed him for about £3 million from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

Wolves have

Muric not an upgrade on Jose Sa

This is an interesting transfer link, because Muric does not appear to be much of an upgrade on Wolves’ current number one Jose Sa.

Muric was once a promising talent on the books at Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola having issued a very encouraging verdict on him in December 2018.

The Spaniard said of him after a Carabao Cup match against Leicester City (via MEN): “He’s trained really good. He’s so shy. It’s a nice moment. Thank you so much to our fans for coming, he deserved the big applause because during the game he was brilliant saving the actions with his foot and of course he saved two penalties.

“Aro is so big and the pressure for the opponents is not easy because his reactions are so quick. He has a lot of power in his legs and he made the right decisions, even for the penalty from Harry Maguire.”

Muric, now 25, is a good goalkeeper but not necessarily better than Wolves’ number one Sa. Therefore, Wolves might be better off focusing on other positions.

One of the main criticisms of Sa has been that he isn’t great when it comes to ball-playing, with some Wolves coaches said to be concerned about this.

But ultimately, Sa is a proven Premier League goalkeeper who just about earns Wolves more points than he loses them. Unless Wolves can sign a clear upgrade on him, then it’s pointless going for someone like Muric.
