Ex-Juve defender Montero to coach Bianconeri for final two games

Former Juventus defender Paolo Montero will take charge of the team for their final two Serie A matches of the season following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.

Juve said in a statement on Sunday that the Uruguayan, famous for his tough tackling as the Bianconeri won four Serie A titles between 1997 and 2003, will be on the bench for Monday's game at Bologna and the home match against Monza on the final day next Sunday.

The 52-year-old steps up from coaching Juve's under-19 team.

Allegri was fired despite winning the Italian Cup in midweek against Atalanta. He was sent off in stoppage time after furiously removing his jacket and confronting the fourth official before also gesticulating to Juve's sporting director.

The club said his behaviour did not fit the values of Juventus. There had been media speculation he would be sacked anyway with Juve a distant fourth in Serie A but having already qualified for the Champions League. They last won a Scudetto in 2020.
