'We are happy': Jordi Alba says Inter Miami star can 'compete' with Luis Suarez after DC United display

Jordi Alba has suggested that one Inter Miami stat could now ‘compete’ with Luis Suarez after last night’s win against DC United.

It was another tough win for the Herons as Inter Miami extended their unbeaten run to nine games, with Lionel Messi again unable to contribute having fired a blank against CF Montreal and missing Wednesday’s clash against Orlando City SC.

Despite the Argentine being off the boil, Inter Miami managed to get the job down in the final moments of the game, where Tata Martino’s side looked set for another 0-0 draw after this week’s stalemate in the Florida derby.

Leonardo Campana praised after Inter Miami heroics vs DC United

Speaking to Deporte Total USA, Alba showered Leonardo Campana with praise after the Ecuador international bagged a stoppage-time winner to secure all three points for Inter Miami.

With Suarez taking the 23-year-old striker’s spot in the starting XI, Campana showed he has what it takes to rival the Uruguay international for the center-forward position, and Alba was impressed with what he saw.

The former FC Barcelona stat said when asked about Campana’s cameo from the bench: “We got a lot out of him, it takes a great player to compete with Luis Suarez, and today it paid off.

“We worked hard for him, he is a player who is frustrated that he is not playing as much as he should be, but at the same, time, he wants to get better and trains very well, he always leaves everything on the pitch, and in the end for us as his teammates, we are happy for him, today has been a huge joy.”

Campana could be a huge asset for the Herons this summer

With the Copa America on the horizon, Inter Miami need to brace themselves to lose a number of star players for the summer, namely Messi, Suarez and Drake Callender, as well as the likes of Matias Rojas.

And whilst Campana could be named in Ecuador’s squad for the competition, all signs currently suggest that the youngster will miss out on La Tri’s final roster.

However, such a decision could be massive for Inter Miami, who could have to rely on Campana to lead the line this summer, with last night’s display and praise from Alba a true statement for the 23-year-old.
