N.J. man charged in daytime shooting, authorities say

An Atlantic City man is charged with attempted murder in a shooting Saturday in Pleasantville that left a 31-year-old man wounded, authorities said.

Marlon Chiles II fled the 11:30 a.m. shooting, but was taken into custody after New Jersey State Police stopped his car on the Atlantic City Parkway, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The wounded man was identified as Andrew Miller of Pleasantville, who was found suffering from multiple gunshots in the 300 block of West Park Avenue, authorities said. Miller was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but his condition was not released.

Authorities said officers were tipped off to the shooting through ShotSpotter, a gunfire detection technology.

Chiles is being held at Atlantic County jail pending a detention hearing, authorities said. He also faces firearms offenses and a charge of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, after a “large quantity” of the drug was found in his car, authorities said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Pleasantville Police Department, with assistance from the State Police, the Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department.
