'Prince Harry just doesn't get America' claims royal commentator - 'He never did a thing!'

A royal commentator has claimed that Prince Harry "just doesn't get America" over the Duke's remarks about Elvis Presley.

It comes after American Pie hitmaker Don McLean hit out at the Duke of Sussex for criticising Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in his memoir, Spare.

In his book, Harry spared no praise when recalling his visit to Elvis Presley's iconic home, Graceland.

Harry described his impression of the property as: "Dark, claustrophobic. I walked around saying, 'The King lived here, you say? Really? '"

He further quipped: "The King's interior designer must have been on acid."

Don Mclean

At the time of Harry's comments, McLean tweeted: "Prince Harry should shut his mouth about Graceland and Elvis. He is a hot house orchid, a show horse who never did a thing."

Speaking to GB News, royal correspondent Kinsey Schofield said: "I think the general takeaway from this is he's defending Elvis, which I can get behind.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"McLean's saying that Prince Harry just doesn't get America. And he's probably right.

"All we've seen Prince Harry do since he's moved over here is try to change it. And those efforts have been unwelcome. But he was talking about Harry's criticism of Elvis and Graceland in the book.

"Don said, Harry doesn't understand that Elvis is like a poor man's King, America's King.

"Elvis came from nowhere. He's a very talented music artist, but he came from nothing and turned himself into something. And Americans really admire that."

Mark Dolan, Kinsey Schofield

McLean told the Daily Mail: "He doesn't understand that Elvis is like the poor man's king.

"He came from nowhere and his recordings are among the greatest ever made."

He added: "His family were as poor as they could be and Harry criticised Elvis' home as if he's comparing it to Buckingham Palace, and that misses the point completely.

"Here's a fellow who has been brought up to be mannerly, but you don't criticise America when you're living here as our guest."

Prince Harry

This comes after the duke declared the US to be his country of residence amid the ongoing legal battle surrounding his visa documents.

Documents submitted to Companies House in the UK show that the Duke of Sussex amended his filings for Travalyst to declare he is usually a resident in the US rather than Britain, his old home.

Prince Harry founded Travalyst, a global coalition of some of the biggest names in travel, in 2019, one year before he relocated to the US with his wife Meghan Markle.
