Ally McCoist hails one factor that has made Arsenal such ‘a completely different entity’

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist has been staggered by the improvement of one thing at Arsenal over the last 18 months.

Arsenal fans were full of energy and anticipation ahead of kick-off against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Although the odds were always against the Gunners being crowned champions this afternoon, the Emirates Stadium was still in full voice and holding out hope of a miracle.

Mikel Arteta’s side have had an extraordinary season. To keep pace with Manchester City until the final game of the campaign is an achievement in and of itself. No matter the outcome of today’s match, the Spanish coach’s players deserved the support of the North London crowd.

Ally McCoist, commentating on TNT Sports (19/05/2024, 16:01), observed: “It’s completely changed in the last 18 months. This stadium is a completely different entity.”

The Emirates Stadium certainly once had a reputation for lacking atmosphere. When Arteta was first appointed as manager in December 2019, there was a toxic rift between the club and the supporters. Arteta made it his mission to heal that divide, and as he has built a young, talented squad full of likeable players, he has succeeded in harmonising the relationship between those on the pitch and those in the stands.

Arteta has transformed Arsenal on and off the pitch. He has the backing of the fans and a group of players that he will believe can achieve special things together.

What next for Arsenal after Premier League title disappointment?

Arsenal will look to strengthen their squad again this summer. Arteta will look to add to his ranks in a number of key areas. Arsenal are expected to sign two goalkeepers. There is also a need to add reinforcements in the middle of the park, and a strong argument that a striker ought to be at the top of the Gunners’ shopping list.

This was also a day on which several Arsenal stars will likely have bid farewell to the club.

Despite Manchester City confirming their fourth successive Premier League title triumph with a win over West Ham United today, Arsenal did their job on the day as they picked up yet another three points with a 2-1 victory against the Toffees. This was their 28th win of the season. Arsenal have made history by picking up their most ever victories in a Premier League campaign.

Although the title was not won in North London, the Arsenal fans were passionate in showing their support for the players after the final whistle.
