'For me...': Jamie Carragher reacts live on air to latest VAR controversy in Wolves' defeat to Liverpool

Wolves lost 2-0 to Liverpool on the final day of the Premier League season, with yet another VAR decision proving costly to Gary O’Neil’s side.

Wolves ended their first season under Gary O’Neil with a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, seeing Jurgen Klopp earn three points on his farewell to the Premier League.

The Old Gold were hoping to cause an upset however, the visitor’s recent spell of dreary form continued, winning just one of their final 10 Premier League games.

Still, there will be plenty of encouragement from the level of quality seen throughout the campaign under O’Neil’s influence with positives to take into next season.

There are elements to celebrate and elements to change in the summer, with Wolves already hoping to change the future of VAR in the top flight.

Against Liverpool, the Old Gold showed why they want the system to be scrapped, with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reacting to a key decision in the Midlands club’s defeat.

Jamie Carragher reacts to Nelson Semedo red card against Liverpool

On Sky Sports, Carragher took the time to question the decision for Nelson Semedo to be sent off, as the Wolves defender saw red after just 28 minutes of the fixture.

The on-field decision saw Chris Kavanagh show the Portugal international a yellow card for a crunching tackle on Alexis Mac Allister, with the referee then instructed to go to the monitor to reassess the challenge.

After following VAR’s advice, Semedo was dismissed, seeing Carragher share one thing that frustrated him about the right-back’s sending-off.

“I don’t think it was harsh but I was sort of stuck between. There for me, it’s a yellow card, it’s only when it’s really slowed down, I’m not a real fan of watching football slowed down.”

There’s no denying that it was a rash tackle from Semedo, who looked to be attempting to trap the ball at the point of contact when colliding with Mac Allister.

Nelson Semedo may have suffered a nightmare final game against Liverpool

Carragher’s point on the game being slowed down is viable, with the tackle looking far more cynical when played almost frame by frame by the VAR monitor.

The foul will split opinion in what was another day for Wolves that ended short as a result of VAR, seeing the visitors handed the impossible task of overcoming Liverpool with 10 men.

Still, it was a nightmare afternoon for Semedo, who could have ended his time at Wolves on disastrous terms with speculation rising about his future at Molineux.
