Meineke worker backed over me with car, N.J. woman says in lawsuit

A 77-year-old woman has filed a lawsuit against a Meineke automotive repair shop in Union County claiming an employee backed over her with another customer’s vehicle as she waited in the parking lot to pick up her car.

Larisa Gritsay, of Springfield, states in court papers the employee was attempting to back a four-door sedan into a mechanic’s bay, but struck her instead, knocking her to the ground and causing serious injuries.

The incident occurred Dec. 2, 2023, at the Meineke in the 1100 block of Route 22 East in Mountainside, according to the lawsuit, filed April 10 in Superior Court of Union County.

Gritsay sustained fractures to her arm and suffered neck and back injuries, states the suit, which names the local shop and corporation as defendants.

A worker at the local Meineke said a supervisor was not available to comment. A corporate spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The lawsuit alleges the worker who hit Gritsay was negligent “for operating a vehicle in a careless and reckless manner in violation” of New Jersey law. The suit accuses Meineke of “failing to make proper observations” of Gritsay while she was a pedestrian on their premises.

Gritsay claims she has incurred numerous medical expenses and has been unable to attend to her usual activities.
