'Can't imagine acquittal': Prosecutor says Trump is 'headed toward conviction' in New York

Donald Trump's legal team may have scored a few points on witness Michael Cohen, but the former president is still barreling toward a conviction in the New York hush money cover-up case, a Florida prosecutor said Sunday.

State Attorney for Palm Beach County Dave Aronberg appeared on MSNBC over the weekend, where he was asked about the case in which the ex-president stands accused of disguising business records to hide payments to an adult film star with whom he had a brief affair.

The host asked Aronberg, in the "big picture" perspective, whether Trump is likely to be a convicted felon or a "newly acquitted man."

"Which of these is more likely?" the host asked.

"Maybe it is the prosecutor in me, but I think this is headed toward a conviction, at least in part," Aronberg said. "I cannot imagine acquittal with the unanimous jury saying that Trump has a better story and was not involved in this."

He goes on to say that witness Michael Cohen, Trump's former fixer and lawyer, has been corroborated from the beginning.

"The lawyers for the defendant have no alternative explanation for how Trump was not involved in this," he said. "In his opening statement, it was said that the payment was not a reimbursement, it was legal fees and legal services, but the evidence overwhelmingly shows it was a reimbursement. Even Donald Trump's own words and tweets and court statements, it shows this was a reimbursement. I don't know how they get out of that."
