Baseball: Darvish earns 200th win of career spent in Japan, MLB

San Diego Padres pitcher Yu Darvish picked up his 200th win of a career spent in Nippon Professional Baseball and Major League Baseball on Sunday, as his seven shutout innings helped carry his team past the Atlanta Braves 9-1.

Darvish (4-1) is in his 20th year as a pro after joining Japan's Nippon Ham Fighters out of high school in 2005.

Last year, the right-hander surpassed Hideo Nomo's 1,918 career strikeouts in the majors -- previously the most by any Japan-born player -- and notched his 100th win since debuting with the Texas Rangers in 2012.

But the 37-year-old fell four wins shy of 200 when his season ended in late August due to elbow trouble.

Darvish recovered from a neck strain this spring after being the Padres' Opening Day starter in Seoul on March 20. In his first four starts since returning from the 15-day injured list on April 30, Darvish has thrown 24 consecutive scoreless innings.
