Fan-favorite judge exits TV show with cryptic '143' post in a 'gorgeous dress'

As if American Idol’s grande finale couldn’t get more epic, Katy Perry took to the stage in a head-turner of a dress to perform. The long-standing judge announced earlier this year that this is her final season on the ABC show. Emotions were running high not only ahead of the winner’s announcement, but for Katy’s exit, too.

The Teenage Dream singer has starred alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie since 2018. In that time, Katy has handed out critiques to shape the journies of American Idol favorites including Just Sam and Noah Thompson. Now, her career is moving in a different direction.

Katy Perry leaves American Idol

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel this year, Katy revealed her plans to exit American Idol.

The music artist unveiled her schedule for the year including how she is set to perform at Rock and Rio in Brazil in the fall.

She added how she “loves Idol so much” and appreciated how the show “connects her with the heart of America” but she wanted to go her own way and “feel the pulse of her own beat in Rio.”

Katy Perry’s 143 meaning

As Katy performs during the American Idol finale, fans are taking to X (Twitter) to share how blown away they are by her.

One said how Katy’s dress was “gorgeous” and more were in awe of the butterfly theme.

A fan wrote: “What a beautiful moment this is. The way the butterfly perfectly landed in her hair.”

Another tweeted: “What a dress. What a song. What a performance. @katyperry on @AmericanIdol ! Butterfly cutouts too… JUST GORGEOUS!”

Taking to Instagram to share her Idol look, Katy wrote: “7 roses for 7 seasons. 143.”

The caption left many of the Firework singer’s fans confused as many asked: “What is 143?” and “143 ALBUM? 143 SINGLE? 143 TOUR? 143 YEARS FOR A NEW ERA?” in the comments.

Others tweeted: “What does ‘143 I love you’ mean?”

Some clued-up Katy Perry fans responded to the questions with an explanation:

“143 is based on the number of letters in each word of the phrase: I (1), love (4), you (3).”
