The Newark Rotary Club has donated £3,000 to Newark-based mental health charity CASY

The Newark Rotary Club has donated thousands of pounds to support a mental health charity.

The president of the club, Jim Wishart, chose to support the Newark-based charity CASY, based on Milgate, during his presidential year.

The first major donation was a cheque of £3,000 presented to Pauline Renshaw, the ceo of CASY.

“This will be the first year we have dared to support two charitable areas since covid and our fundraising efforts have been better than expected,” said Jim Wishartand.

The Rotary Club organised their traditional Elston Sunday Lunch last autumn, which was followed by a Christmas period fundraising with mulled wine and hot chocolate in the Newark market, ending with cash collection at Waitrose.

Before Easter, the club organised a charity concert in North Mushkam, described by the president as “very successful”.

The £3,000 cheque was presented to the charity ceo at a lunch meeting to give updates and answer questions from members.

Jim said: “We are delighted to be able to provide this amount.

“It is considerably more than I could have hoped for at the start of my year. Our patrons, the people of Newark, have been hugely generous in these very hard times.”

Casy is a Newark-based charity that supports young people from the age of six up to 25, who may be having a difficult time in school, suffering from family break-ups, bereavement or isolation.

They provide trained counsellors covering Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire with one-to-one sessions with the referees.
