'Brutally honest': Ally McCoist names two strikers Arsenal are more likely to sign than Viktor Gyokeres

Ally McCoist has offered a ‘brutally honest’ verdict on who Arsenal will target this summer transfer window to lead the line.

Arsenal’s Premier League campaign ended in disappointment on Sunday despite defeating Everton 2-1 at the Emirates.

The title ultimately went to Manchester City, who cruised past West Ham United 3-1 to win it for the fourth successive time – a new record in English football.

Now, planning will begin for the fast-approaching summer transfer window and a striker may very much be top of the agenda.

That said, McCoist has just named two strikers who are more likely to join the North Londoners than Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Ally McCoist says Alexander Isak and Ivan Toney are more likely to join Arsenal

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Monday morning show (8:15am), McCoist admitted that he believes Arsenal are more likely to go with the finished article in Alexander Isak or Ivan Toney than Gyokeres.

“I will be brutally honest. I think you are looking at guys like Isak, Toney, guys like that. Would they take the gamble? I think they probably will go for a finished article, a Toney or an Isak,” the 61-year-old said.

Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to North London having enjoyed a phenomenal debut season for the Portuguese club.

The 25-year-old has netted a whopping 43 goals whilst laying on 15 assists across 49 outings and Sporting are understood to be demanding around £68m

Who Arsenal should go for

All three bring risks in different ways.

Toney has obviously hardly featured this season due to his suspension and has struggled to reach the same heights, so perhaps Arsenal should stay clear.

Gyokeres is unproven at Premier League level and would represent a huge gamble for the money they’d have to outlay.

And then there’s Isak, who is the obvious number one target but would require in excess of £100m to be spent – so that fee is a big, big risk.

If Arsenal can afford Isak, they should go all in for him but it seems they’ll be in the market for a cheaper alternative, perhaps Joshua Zirkzee or Benjamin Sesko.
