'Fully ready': Inter Miami coach says 'massive' player is now set to return from injury

Tata Martino has hinted that an Inter Miami player is close to returning to action having missed the last two months.

The Herons have endured injury crisis after injury crisis this season with Inter Miami seeing a number of key players miss crucial games in the calender due to various knocks and bumps.

Lionel Messi recently missed Inter Miami’s midweek trip to Orlando City SC with an ankle problem with Jordi Alba only now just returning to the field after missing nearly a month due to a hamstring injury.

And the MLS Supporters’ Shield leaders are set to welcome another star back to action.

Federico Redondo set to return for Inter Miami from injury

Speaking to the press, manager Martino confirmed that Federico Redondo will make his long-awaited return from injury in the next two games, with the midfielder in with a shout of traveling to Vancouver this weekend.

Lauded by Taylor Twellman as a ‘massive’ talent, Redondo has missed the last two months after tearing a ligament that has limited the winter signing to just four appearances in all competitions for Inter Miami.

However, Redondo’s return is now on the horizon, and Martino has hinted that the 21-year-old Argentine youth international could be set to feature for the Herons as early as this weekend against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Martino said: “For Diego [Gomez], he still has several weeks of recovery left. But in the case of Fede [Redondo], if he doesn’t travel to Vancouver this weekend, he will be fully ready for Atlanta afterwards.”

Redondo’s return has come at the perfect time for Martino and Inter Miami

Redondo’s arrival this winter was viewed by many as one of the biggest coups from an MLS side in quite some time, with the midfielder regarded as one of the most exciting talents in all of South America.

Yet having been out injured since March, Inter Miami fans have been left waiting for the midfielder to return, something that is now on the verge with Redondo in with a shot of making the squad this weekend.

And the timing of Redondo’s comeback could not have been timed any better, with the Argentine able to get minutes and regain match fitness before the Copa America break, where Inter Miami and Martino will need the midfielder at his best.
