Report: Arsenal want to sign striker Virgil van Dijk says is a ‘great talent’ if they can’t get Alexander Isak

Arsenal will reportedly turn their attention to a striker Virgil van Dijk has lauded as a ‘great talent’ if they can’t sign Alexander Isak.

After missing out on the Premier League title for the second year running, it’s expected to be a busy summer at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s side fell short by an agonising total of two points as their final day victory over Everton proved in vain.

With the season over, Arsenal fans will already be looking ahead to the summer window as Arteta bids to go one better next term.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for a new forward and Alexander Isak is on their radar. But with Newcastle United looking to make Isak the highest-paid player in the club’s history, Arsenal could be forced to look elsewhere.

Arsenal to target Brian Brobbey if Isak move proves too difficult

The Independent reports that while Arsenal want to see if a deal for Isak is possible, they won’t get involved in a lengthy transfer saga this summer.

Should a move for Isak prove impossible, Ajax striker Brian Brobbey is ‘most likely’ to be their next target.

It’s claimed that Brobbey is attracting interest from a host of top clubs after netting 22 times for Ajax this season.

What Van Dijk has said about Brobbey

Brobbey has enjoyed a brilliant couple of seasons in the Eredivisie after a breakthrough campaign last time out.

Following his 14 goals in all competitions during the 2022-23 season, the Dutchman has netted 22 times and provided 12 assists this term.

After Ajax’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League group stages back in October 2022, Virgil van Dijk was full of praise for the youngster.

“I think he’s a great boy. He is a great talent and basically has everything. He is fast, strong and can finish well,” said the Liverpool skipper said, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“He had said in an interview that he would score against us, but luckily, we were able to prevent that. He can be a very good weapon [for the World Cup], but it’s up to the national coach.”
