James Maddison lauded Phil Foden after Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions.

Phil Foden showcased why he was awarded the Premier League Player of the Season award with an outstanding display against West Ham.

The £225,000-a-week man capped off a remarkable season from him with two goals of the highest order as City beat the Hammers 3-1 on Sunday. Thierry Henry lauded the Englishman for how he has carried his boyhood club’s burden on his back when Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland have been injured.

James Maddison hails Phil Foden after City win the Premier League

James Maddison, who has trained and played with Phil Foden at international level n several instances praised him on Instagram.

Maddison commented on the City player’s post-match post: “What a player you are by the way.”

Alongside Phil Foden and Martin Odegaard, James Maddison has made a case to be the league’s best attacking midfielder this season.

Since joining Spurs, the former Leicester City talisman has further solidified why he is a cracking player.

The FA Cup winner has expressed his admiration for Foden in the past as well, praising him on Instagram after his hat-trick against Brentford this season.

Maddison perhaps has a special appreciation for the 23-year-old

Due to playing in the same number 10 position as Phil Foden does, perhaps James Maddison has a special level of appreciation for him.

Especially considering how impactful Foden has been for City this season while being one of the most productive players in the league.

Despite being four years older than the Manchester City talisman, Maddison must be inspired by him.

The way Phil Foden remains incredibly consistent and continues to be a matchwinner are qualities that attacking midfielders like James Maddison would naturally gravitate towards.

In the first few months of the season, it seemed like Maddison was making a case to be England’s go-to number 10.

But at this point, it would be a surprise to see Gareth Southgate opt for James Maddison over the six-time Premier League winner as his team’s attacking midfielder at Euro 2024.
