Liverpool looking at signing £128m midfielder dubbed the ‘next Luka Modric’ as Arne Slot’s first big signing

Liverpool are pressing on with plans to sign new players and could now go for a big name midfielder who knows Arne Slot well.

Jurgen Klopp has been gone less than 24 hours but as is the norm, we are already seeing a number of rumours emerging regarding potential signings.

New manager Arne Slot will be over to start his work at Anfield soon and as part of that work, new signings will be on the agenda.

One man who has already been linked today is Aston Villa midfielder, Jacob Ramsey.

However, according to reports from Turkey, Liverpool are also looking at a midfielder who has worked well with Slot previously.

Liverpool looking at signing Orkun Kokcu to work with Arne Slot

According to a report from Fotosport, the Reds are looking at Kokcu as one of the options to play in the midfielder under Slot.

Kokcu is currently playing his football with Benfica after signing for them from Feyenoord – where he worked with Slot – and has impressed.

This season has seen Koku score seven times and lay on another 11 in the process.

The Turkish international has long been linked with a move to England and still just 23, he has time on his side.

One sticking point could be the release-clause in his contract. The Benfica man is said to have a clause in his current deal of around £128m, which would be a huge outlay for the Reds.

Orkun Kokcu – the next Luka Modric?

Being compared to Real Madrid legend Modric is quite the claim to fame but that’s who Kokcu has been compared to by former Red, Momo Sissoko.

“I’ve seen him play in different positions, he made a good impression on me both as a central defender and as an attacking midfielder. He’s perfect as a pivot in a three-man midfield, Juve are looking for a profile like his to improve the squad,” Sissoko said.

“I get out of balance and answer Modric, for me he has the same quality of play. He has the potential to reach his level,” he added when asked to compare Kokcu to a current player.

Kokcu, then, could well be a player who excels in England under the guidance of Slot.

However, at £128m, it’s quite the outlay for the Reds and one that needs to be considered a lot.
