Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on Benjamin Sesko's future amid Newcastle interest

Newcastle United are interested in signing Benjamin Sesko this summer, but they are not the only ones.

Benjamin Sesko is once again on the Magpies’ transfer radar, after Newcastle United missed out on signing him in 2022. There was talk of him moving from RB Salzburg to Eddie Howe’s side just over two years ago, but he took his talents to Germany instead.

The Slovenian joined RB Leipzig last summer, having agreed to the move a year earlier in 2022. Newcastle missed out, and turned to Alexander Isak instead. They will be happy with that decision, with their most expensive signing ever scoring 25 goals this season and being described as world class.

But Newcastle need better backup for Isak, with Callum Wilson struggling to stay fit. That is why the club are looking at another striker, and a move for Sesko is once again being talked about.

Benjamin Sesko has the chance to go to Saudi Arabia

Toon scouts reportedly view Sesko as a work in progress as they debate who to move for this summer, and they are not the only ones that are keeping an eye on the 20-year-old.

That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has stated that Sesko has already received two offers to take his talents to Saudi Arabia.

However, Romano adds that the striker does not want to move to the Middle East, despite the financial opportunity.

Romano also states that Sesko has been offered a new deal to extend his stay with Leipzig, while Premier League clubs are considering an approach.

Sesko deal might be beyond Newcastle this summer

While Sesko might not want to join a club in Saudi Arabia, there could still be a chance for him to be signed by their sovereign wealth fund. A move to Newcastle would surely be much more appealing, with Sesko obviously wanting to continue his career in Europe.

But while Newcastle might be keen, this feels like a deal that is financially beyond the Magpies.

Sesko does have a release clause in his current Leipzig contract, but it is one that would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever. He will cost £56million, which is a lot of money to spend on what would effectively be a backup striker.

That figure sums up why Eddie Howe is so keen to keep Callum Wilson, having told the club how costly it will be to replace him.

It will certainly cost a lot if they decide to replace him with Sesko, that is for sure.
