Arne Slot has already made his first decision about the Liverpool squad as head coach

Liverpool announced their decision to hire Arne Slot as the club’s new head coach on Monday evening.

It has long been known that the Dutchman had been the man chosen to follow in the enormous footsteps of Jurgen Klopp.

But with Klopp still looming over Anfield, the Reds decided to keep an official statement under wraps. After the outgoing boss was given his farewell on Sunday though, the coast was clear to break the news.

It marks a new era in Liverpool’s history, with FSG deciding that Slot will be a ‘head coach’ and not a ‘manager.’

And following the big news on Monday, more details have already started to emerge about the start of Slot’s tenure with Liverpool.

Arne Slot sets Liverpool return date

It will be an indescribably strange feeling for Liverpool supporters to see a new man in charge at Anfield.

Of course, it isn’t just Slot either. As we saw in the stadium on Sunday, so many of Klopp’s coaching team are saying goodbye as well. There’ll be a whole new group in charge of the Liverpool squad.

Slot will be the main man, though. And as per The Telegraph, the new leader is already making decisions in the hot seat.

They claim that the 45-year-old’s first decision as Reds boss has been to set the date for a pre-season return.

In a good sign, Slot has reportedly brought Liverpool’s return forward by a week against the original plan. It’s said that the new boss’ first sessions at the AXA Training Centre will take place in the first week of July.

With summer tournaments ongoing, it’s reported that those involved with their country’s will return later, depending on how deep they go in their respective competitions.

The Liverpool players confirmed for summer tournaments

We’re yet to see the full extent of which Liverpool players will be heading off to Euro 2024 and the Copa America. However, it’s likely that a large number of the first-team will be busy over the summer.

For the Euros, five Reds have already been confirmed to be part of their country’s cohorts.

That could still change for Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo, who are all part of a provisional team for the Netherlands.

There’s no such apprehension for Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai, who will be heading to Germany with France and Hungary respectively.

In terms of Copa America, only Alisson Becker has so far been announced as a certainty to be travelling. However, it seems likely that Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez will follow.
