Gers could soon be asking ex-Celtic player turned manager for reported £5.1m transfer favour

If Rangers are going to get a transfer favour from anyone this summer, you’d be hard-pressed to find a bluenose suggesting they could get one from Neil Lennon.

The former Celtic midfielder and manager isn’t exactly Rangers’ biggest fan and it’s fair to say Neil Lennon doesn’t have many supporters down Edmiston Drive either.

But the Northern Irish manager is potentially set to play a crucial role in one of Rangers’ most recent transfer links, should the Gers actually be interested.

With Lennon jetting into Romania to take charge of Rapid Bucharest, the future of the club’s star Kosovan striker Albion Rrahmani has just taken an Old Firm twist.

Lennon involved in Rangers Rrahmani call?

Albion Rrahmani has certainly been making a few headlines as of late.

After netting an impressive 19 goals in only 30 games in Romania this season, the former Ballkani forward is reportedly a man in demand.

With the likes of Aston Villa, Benfica, Napoli and Werder Bremen mentioned in dispatches, Rangers were linked this week by a leading Kosovan football Twitter account.

Whilst we’re still waiting on something a little more concrete, it’s enough to get everyone talking and Neil Lennon has just found himself at the centre of things.

The former Celtic boss, who was last in charge of Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia, looks set to be appointed the new manager of Rapid Bucharest.

How much stay Neil Lennon will get in the future of Albion Rrahmani we do not know, but if Rangers are serious about the signing we expect he’d at least be in the discussion.

Rangers handed transfer boost

Albion Rrahmani is certainly a player of interest to Rangers supporters heading into the window.

At 23-years-old the striker fits the profile of a hungry, young footballer with levels to go and potential which could bank Rangers millions.

But one thing which did appear to make the links fanciful were not only those reports surrounding interest in Italy, Germany and England.

A leading Albanian football agent only this week appeared to slap a €10M (£8.6M) price tag on the striker’s head.

For a Rangers squad about to undergo ‘quite a rebuild’ that’s a genuinely inconceivable amount.

But do not fear Rangers fans because, even with the price tag and the sudden appearance of Neil Lennon on the scene, there is some cause for optimism.

Not least a report in the Czech Republic which credited both Sparta and Slavia Prague with an interest in the player.

Local outlet iDNES claimed back at the start of May that the Prague duo hoped to strike a €2.5M (£2.1M) deal to sign the forward before being priced out due to Rapid’s €8M (£6.8M) demands.

But the article goes on to say that the Romanians could deal eventually settle between €5M (£4.3M) and €6M (£5.1M)

Suddenly those links Rangers don’t seem quite so ambitious after all, even if a favour Neil Lennon does.
