British family claim they were 'stopped' from boarding flight to Turkey 'because of very light ink stain on passport' costing them £2.5k holiday

A family-of-three claim a "very light ink stain" on their father's passport has cost them a £2,500 holiday after they were "stopped" from boarding a flight to Turkey.

Charlotte Estlick had paid for a package holiday to Dalaman in Turkey with her husband Myk and their six-year-old daughter Nyla.

But when the family tried to check in at Manchester Airport on May 3, Charlotte said Myk was refused travel as his passport was lightly marked with blue ink after seemingly getting wet.

The 28-year-old mother said her partner had used the same passport with the marking for eight years and even travelled to Dalaman last May.

Myk attempted to obtain an emergency passport, but the passport office is said to have had no availability for several days.

The delay would have meant Charlotte's partner would miss the majority of their holiday.

As a result, the family abandoned their plans and lost out on £2,500.

The mum-of-one posted about the ordeal on Facebook which saw social media users sharing their support for the family.

Many users spoke out against holiday firm TUI with many saying they could not even see the ink stain.

Writing on Facebook, Charlotte said: "On arriving to the airport when checking in they said Myk's passport had ink damage. They sent it off somewhere and it was refused even though none of the information was damaged or the picture.

"A TUI member of staff said if you get it off you can fly, so in a panic a lady offered us hand sanitiser and it was beginning to come off.

"However this resulted in a small rip in the passport so we knew we weren't going from then anyway.

"The TUI staff were laughing around us saying Dalaman airport wouldn't of accepted it anyway."

The mum added the "very petty" situation left her "little girl standing thee crying in the airport because she couldn't go on holiday".

After making a formal complaint to the airline, she says her case is being investigated.
