Kyle Petty decided to torch Kyle Busch for wrecking Ricky Stenhouse Jr. during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro.

The No. 47 wheelman was sent into the wall by Busch on Lap 2 of the 200-lap race. With $1,000,000 on the line, both drivers were on edge and looking for every edge they could gain early in the race, and the money could’ve gone a long way from Stenhouse Jr.’s single-car team.

A large contingent agreed that on the ensuing replay, it looked like Stenhouse didn’t really do anything wrong to Busch. He ran up the middle and Busch got into the wall. So, the No. 47 wheelman was certainly stewing over the situation, and ended up confronting Busch after the race.

According to Petty, Busch wrecking Stenhouse Jr. was a case of misplaced anger, as the NASCAR analyst believes Busch was taking out his frustration regarding not being as competitive as he’s used to on the No. 47.

“He just turns him into the outside wall. Totally uncalled for. I’ve seen a lot of people say, ‘That’s not the way Kyle Busch drives.’ All I’m going to say is two names: Ron Hornaday and Joey Logano. Just ask them how Kyle Busch drives sometimes,” Petty stated. “This is frustration. Remember how Kyle Busch used to run up front? No, I can’t remember it either, because it’s been about a year-and-a-half, and I think it’s the frustration starting to come out.

“Frustration from Ricky Stenhouse. He said though in his interview, ‘He’s going to pay. I’m going to get him.’ How about that footage. Ricky Stenhouse, standing there. Leaned up against the tailgate of that truck. It looked like a showdown in a John Wayne western. Kyle Busch walks up. Ricky Stenhouse comes up. They have a few words, and then boom, the punch. The punch that we’re going to talk about for a long time, because it landed. That punch landed. Down goes Kyle Busch, down goes Kyle Busch.”

That makes a lot of sense from Petty, and Busch mentioned something similar following the race, about his frustrations being a long time coming.

“I’m tired of being run over by everybody,” Busch told FOX, as the dust settled on the evening. “But that’s what everybody does. Everybody runs over everybody to pass everybody.”

Regardless, Kyle Busch shouldn’t have taken out his anger on the No. 47, and completely ruin a golden opportunity for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and his team. That’s why it’ll stick in their craw for a long, long time.
