HOOVER — Andrew Fischer’s first year at Ole Miss might not be going how he planned it but the former Duke transfer earned an individual honor this week ahead of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

On Monday the SEC announced its 2024 baseball awards, including the All-SEC teams. Fischer was named Second Team Designated Hitter/Utility player. He was the lone Ole Miss player named All-SEC.

Fischer is currently hitting .289 and nearly tied with infielder Luke Hill (.290) as the Rebels second best hitter. The on-again, off-again third baseman leads the team with 20 home runs and tied for eighth-best in the SEC with South Carolina’s Ethan Petry.

He has primarily been the Rebels designated hitter in the lineup with Judd Utermark manning third base in the last part of the regular season.

After slow starts at the plate transfers Fischer, Hill and Jackson Ross managed to be at the top of offense categories for the Rebels by season’s end.

The Ole Miss slugger also leads the team with 57 runs batted in, with is good enough for 12th best in the conference. Along with the home runs Fischer has 32 extra-base hits on the season with 10 doubles and a triple.

The duo of Fischer and Hill is leading Ole Miss at the plate with outfielder Ethan Lege missing the last 11 games due to a fractured right hand. Lege was hit by a pitch during the May 1 game against Mississippi State at Trustmark Park and has not played since.

Monday provided an update on Lege after he got a x-ray to check the progress of his hand. The x-ray showed the bone had moved in Lege’s hand and he stayed back in Oxford while the team traveled to Hoover for the SEC Tournament. The senior outfielder will have surgery to repair the fracture on Wednesday.

Ole Miss opens the SEC Tournament on Tuesday against Mississippi State at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. First pitch tentatively scheduled for 8 p.m. CT.
