Bubba Wallace shared his experience of fans booing him at the NASCAR All-Star race on Sunday. The NASCAR driverwent to social media to share bodycam footage of his introduction, and some fans began booing. However, when he approached the fans, many showed their support.

“Bubba, I’m your biggest fan,” one person said. Another person added “F- these sons of b-ches,” while others were cheering.

Wallace has dealt with boos for the last few years due to him speaking out against social injustice. He’s the only Black full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series and gained a lot of attention during the Back Lives Matter movement in 2020.

In April, Wallace appeared on the Stacking Pennies Podcast with Corey LaJoie and talked about being the only Black driver every week.

Bubba Wallace has grown a lot since 2020

“There’s way more eyes for sure,” Wallace said. “At times, I’d say the biggest thing I’ve done in this year is ever since 2020, I was always like okay I got to prove to everybody that you know what, I belong here instead of just [being Bubba] and thinking that world is against me and everybody’s out to get me. There may be some, but I don’t need to invest my time into that anymore, you know, trying to prove everybody right.”

“The people that matter, they know what’s right and what’s wrong. I think that’s helped me out a lot. just from the mental side of it,” Wallace continued. “And then showing up to the race track and being more comfortable. I definitely lost touch with who I was for the last couple of years and chasing the wrong thing. You know now that you’ve kind of gotten back to being on the right track, things are starting to click.”

Wallace is having a solid 2024 season despite not winning a race yet. On Sunday, the 30-year-old finished sixth in the All-Star Race, and it comes after finishing seventh in Darlington last week. Wallace started the season with fifth-place finishes in Daytona and Atlanta and is currently 16th in the Cup Series standings. He reached the playoffs for the first time in his career in 2023 and finished 10th once the season ended

Wallace will look to get his first win on Sunday when he competes in the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. Last year, Wallace finished fourth in the race behind Martin Truex Jr., William Byron and winner Ryan Blaney.
