Arsenal chairman makes transfer vow after Premier League title heartbreak

By Katie Catherall

Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke has promised fans the club is 'working to move forward' after failing to end their 20-year wait for a Premier League title.

The Gunners' title challenge went down to the wire but supporters were left relying on Manchester City to lose to stand any chance of securing the silverware on the final day of the season.

Pep Guardiola's side marched into an early lead and ended up beating West Ham United 3-1, forcing Arsenal - who overcame Everton thanks to a late Kai Havertz strike - to return to the drawing board once again.

It is the second successive season Mikel Arteta's side have fallen short of City in a title race. However, progress has undoubtedly been made at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal ending on 89 points - only their 2003/04 team (90) have posted more in a Premier League campaign.

Club chairman Kroenke has vowed to work hard during the summer to ensure Arsenal's chances of winning silverware increase next season.

He said: "While we are undoubtedly proud of the progress we have made, I want to be clear that no one at the club will stand still. We're all working behind the scenes to move us forward - always forward - again. There is so much that we want to achieve, both at home and in Europe, and we are focused on writing some exciting new stories and chapters that build on the history of Arsenal.

“There have been so many stories and milestones across the season, shaped by so many of our players. We have all enjoyed seeing our summer signings flourish into being Arsenal players and we're delighted that a number of players have committed to new contracts to keep this squad together, fighting on all fronts. We want to continue to forge that winning mentality that runs so deeply throughout the club."

Arsenal have been linked with a variety of players recently, with Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu and Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee among those rumoured to be of interest.
