Outgoing mayor Nigel Foot presents cheque of £2478.11 to West Berkshire Homeless representative Erica Gassor at Newbury’s mayor making event on May 12, before the grand total was raised to £2603.11

Throughout his mayoral term, Mr Foot championed the homeless charity by staging a number of fundraising events such as raffles, a quiz night, fundraising concerts, coffee mornings and more.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted with the amount raised for West Berkshire Homeless over my year as mayor.

“Every penny raised will be very well used and very welcome for Erica Gassor and her team as the demand for homeless shelters and also utilities and food provision are going up and up.

“I know we will continue to support Erica and West Berkshire Homeless in every way we can at Newbury Town Council.”

Mr Foot also extended his thanks to everyone who contributed to his fundraising efforts and to those who participated in his fundraising events throughout his mayoral year.

On behalf of the Trustees of West Berkshire Homeless, Ms Gassor said: “We were so delighted and privileged to be chosen as the mayor of Newbury’s charity for 2023/24 and we were bowled over to receive a cheque for £2,603.11, an amazing amount.

“Our sincere thanks go to the outgoing mayor, Nigel Foot, and his team for all their hard work.”

Newbury’s new mayor Andy Moore will be supporting West Berks Foodbank throughout his annual term in office.
