In 2024, their previous promotion push collapsed with three different Sunderland managers taking the helm including interim Mike Dodds.
However, with change in the summer comes hope, with the upcoming campaign promising a clean slate to finally get out of the Championship.

When does the summer transfer window open?
Sunderland will officially be able to conduct business by signing or selling players from Friday, June 14, 2024.

When is transfer deadline day?
The summer transfer window will be open for over two months before closing on Friday, August 30.
This will match with the Premier League and the other top European leagues.
When are the Championship fixtures released?
Sunderland’s fixtures for the 2024/25 Championship season will be released on Wednesday, June 26 at 9am.
When is Sunderland’s pre-season tour?
Sunderland will be flying out to Alicante, Spain to prepare for the upcoming campaign. Their first fixture will be on July 20 before finishing off the tour the very next day.

When does the Championship start?
The 2024/25 Championship season will get underway on the weekend of August 10, 2024.
The European Championship in the upcoming summer means that the competition is starting later than last year.
International breaks
There will be four international breaks across the season. They will be:
- September 2-10
- October 7-15
- November 11-19
- March 17-25
When do Sunderland enter the Carabao Cup?
Sunderland will once again enter the Carabao Cup in the first round of the competition.
The round is scheduled to take place on August 13/14 with the draw date yet to be confirmed.
When is the FA Cup third round?
The dates are yet to be confirmed for when the FA Cup will take place.
The competition will have a new look to it for the 2024/25 campaign with replays being scrapped for the first round onwards.
When does the January transfer window open?
Sunderland did little business in last winter window but they will have a chance to make up for this blunder from January 1, 2025.
When does the winter transfer window close?
The January window will be open until Monday, February 3, 2025.
When is the final day of the 2024/25 Championship season?
The final round of Championship fixtures will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
When is the Championship Play-off Final set to take place?
All EFL play-off final dates are scheduled for the late May bank holiday weekend. This will take place between May 24-26.
