Unemployment in Slovakia dropped to 3.82% in April, decreasing for the third month in a row. It is a decrease of 0.26 percentage points year on year and 0.06 pp month on month.
Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family Erik Tomas (Hlas) praised the launching of two projects to boost the employment of graduates and other vulnerable groups as proof that “despite the unusually low unemployment there are still areas where a support of the state is needed.”
The number of job applicants registered with the labour office in April was 165,829. Michal Tomajko, an analyst at the state’s Institute for Social Policy, pointed out that the figure is just by 872 more than the record minimum from May 2019.
Unemployment dropped across all Slovak regions, with the Banska Bystrica region in Central Slovakia registering the steepest drop of 0.15 pp to 5.34%. From among the districts, the steepest drop was recorded in Rimavska Sobota in southern Slovakia – from 10.64% to 10.20%.
