Three left-backs Mikel Arteta can target as Arsenal summer transfer update now emerges

Arsenal will look to sign a new left-back this summer as Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his options in that part of the pitch.

Arsenal are not currently short of left-back options.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jurrien Timber, and Jakub Kiwior are all capable of playing the position.

However, Tomiyasu’s injury record means that he cannot be relied upon to be fit and available when needed, Zinchenko is considered a defensive liability, whilst Kiwior is better-suited to playing at centre-back.

Meanwhile, it is yet to be seen where Timber features in Mikel Arteta’s tactical plans, as the Dutchman’s maiden campaign with the North London club was decimated by injury.

According to The Standard, the Gunners will look to add “at least one more” left-back to their ranks in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Three left-back options Arsenal should consider in summer transfer window

Rayan Ait-Nouri

Arsenal are already known to hold an interest in Wolves ace Rayan Ait-Nouri, but may well face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City for the £50 million-rated defender’s services.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a fine season with the Midlands outfit and has caught the eye with his attacking play. The 10-cap Algeria international is comfortable on the ball and offers a real threat in the final third.

Leonardo Spinazzola

Arsenal were linked with Leonardo Spinazzola in the recent January transfer window. The 31-year-old is currently set to become a free-agent this summer, as his contract with Rome is due to expire.

There are certainly question marks over the Italian full-back, who has a patchy injury record. However, when fit and firing on all cylinders, Spinazzola remains a hugely effective full-back who can be a true creative force.

If Arteta is looking for a squad depth option who would add experience to the group then the 24-cap Italy international would be a cost-effective solution.

Jorrel Hato

18-year-old Ajax gem Jorrel Hato is a hugely exciting prospect. The teenager is generally deployed as a centre-back by the Dutch outfit, but has featured at left-back in the past and has the technical ability and physical attributes to thrive in that role. Arteta also appreciates versatility in his defenders, as the likes of Timber, Tomiyasu, Kiwior, and Ben White have all featured in multiple positions for the Gunners.

Hato is rated more highly than Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri, and would be a real coup for the future if Arteta could secure his services this summer.
