Report: Celtic are targeting a move for a 'world class' free agent this summer

It has just come to light, that Celtic are targeting a move for a highly-rated free agent this summer, according to a recent report.

After winning the Scottish Premiership, attention will now turn towards the fast-approaching summer transfer window for Brendan Rodgers and his chiefs.

It’s been a difficult season back for Rodgers, who’s faced scrutiny at times, but ultimately the main goal has been fulfilled.

The 51-year-old will want to imprint his own identity on the squad and will be keen to strengthen his squad.

That said, Celtic are already being linked with a new goalkeeper.

Celtic eye Koen Casteels

According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are considering a move for Koen Casteels, who is set to become a free agent at the end of his Wolfsburg contract this summer.

Rodgers is eager to sign a replacement between the sticks for Joe Hart, who recently announced his retirement.

Casteels, once considered ‘world class’, has emerged as an option for Celtic, though, they face competition from Anderlecht.

The 31-year-old has been capped eight times by Belgium and could be getting off to Germany for the European Championships this summer.

Celtic also consider Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy

The report also claimed that Celtic are considering a move for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who is out of contact at the end of June.

The 34-year-old has hardly featured for Saints this term but when called upon, remains a safe pair of hands.

Waalwijk’s Etienne Vaessen has also been a name mooted over the last 24 hours.
