'If I'm honest': EFL manager predicts who'll win when Leeds face Southampton in Championship playoff final

An EFL manager is convinced he knows the score when Leeds United face Southampton in the Championship playoff final this weekend.

The Whites‘ season is all on one game now, as they take on Saints at Wembley this coming Sunday afternoon.

It’s going to be a nervy day for Leeds faithful, particularly given their miserable record in the playoffs – having not won it.

Though, after their sensational 4-0 drubbing of Norwich City in the semi-final second leg, confidence is certainly a lot higher than it was.

That said, an EFL manager has predicted the score.

Darrell Clarke predicts Leeds United to beat Southampton

Cheltenham Town manager Darrell Clarke, speaking on talkSPORT’s EFL All Access podcast, favoured Leeds to beat Southampton.

“I think it’s two very evenly matched teams and I think it’s going to be some individual brilliance that wins the game if I’m honest with you,” Clarke said.

“I don’t know why I just fancy Leeds to edge it. The Leeds manager’s experience from going up from that division.

“And it’s two teams we expected to be right up there this season. I just fancy Leeds might just have that little bit more excellence in forward areas to win the game.”

Daniel Farke should play on the counter

The blueprint to defeat Southampton this season has been set by several sides.

Playing transitional football is perhaps the best way for Leeds to set up – soaking up pressure before hitting them on the counterattack.

With the pace of Crycensio Summerville and Wilfred Gnonto on the vast Wembley pitch, Saints defenders could be in for a tricky afternoon.
