Bayern Munich cast their eyes towards Premier League duo as coach search continues

Bayern Munich’s search for a new head coach has emerged as one of the biggest sagas of 2024 and HITC can confirm they are now on the trail of a couple of Premier League bosses.

Bayern announced in February that they would be parting company with Thomas Tuchel, but they have failed to land his successor since then.

Their first choice was Xabi Alonso, but he rejected them and Liverpool to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick then opted to stay with Germany and Austria respectively, before they then tried for Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner – who who made it clear he wanted to remain at Selhurst Park.

They then turned back to Tuchel – who was willing to stay, but with a new deal – but talks with him broke down last week. An approach for Benfica’s Roger Schmidt also happened, but he too joined the increasingly list of coaches who have said ‘no’.

Former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Robert De Zerbi was of interest, but those talks did not progress – despite him revealing his departure from the club last weekend.

Bayern Munich in talks with Thomas Frank and Vincent Kompany

Now HITC can reveal that Bayern have now shown an interest in Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany.

Bayern have been impressed with the work done by both men in the past season and sources confirm that they have done background checks on both coaches, and have been impressed with what they have learned.

Frank’s name has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in recent months, whilst Kompany is understood to be considering his options.

HITC understands that both Brentford and Burnley have been anticipating interest in their head coaches and they have been doing their due diligence on potential replacements.

And ironically, should Brentford lose Frank – one name on their list of options is Kompany.
