1 dead as Singapore Airlines plane hit by turbulence

One person has died and a number of others have been injured after a Singapore Airlines flight from London hit severe turbulence, forcing it to make an emergency landing at an airport in Bangkok on Tuesday, according to a statement from the airline.

The Boeing 777-300ER, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, was en route to Singapore when it encountered severe turbulence, according to the airline. The aircraft diverted to Bangkok and landed at 3:45 p.m. at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The airline posted on Facebook that it is cooperating with local authorities in Thailand to provide necessary medical assistance and has dispatched a team to Bangkok to offer additional support.

While Singapore Airlines has not specified the number of injured individuals, various Thai media outlets report that at least 30 people sustained injuries.
