‘Remarkable’: Martin Keown says one Man City player has ‘taken his game to another level’ this season

Martin Keown has said that one Manchester City player has become very similar to Kevin De Bruyne this season.

Having beaten West Ham United 3-1 on the final day of the Premier League season, the Blues were crowned champions for the fourth time in a row.

Even though De Bruyne spent a large period of time out through injury, the midfielder still went on to score four goals and deliver 10 assists in 18 Premier League games.

With the latest league campaign now over, one pundit has made an observation about another member of City’s squad and what connection he seems to have with De Bruyne.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Keown had this to say on the matter.

He said: “When I watch De Bruyne play, we know he’s a wonderful talent and a wonderful player, he has a playbook of the game which is remarkable and we go ‘wow, how did he see that?’

“And I think he’s handed that book now to [Phil] Foden this season. He’s reading from that same book and it’s a very privileged book that not many people can read from.

“He has taken his game to another level and obviously, Man City have profited from that.”

Foden has outshone everyone at Man City this season

In 35 Premier League appearances this season, the Englishman found the back of the net 19 times and delivered eight assists.

The 23-year-old ended up making more key passes (73) than any other player in the City squad.

Looking back over the 2022/23 season, De Bruyne topped the same list by making 96 key passes throughout the Premier League campaign.

This shows how effective the two players are in terms of being able to read the game and create goalscoring chances.

Now that Keown has highlighted how similar Foden has been to De Bruyne this season, if the duo can go on to play regularly together next season, City supporters should expect their side to score a lot of goals.
