Rangers overhaul set to run right through the club as firm message sent over current set-up

Philippe Clement has made no bones about the fact there will be changes at Rangers this summer.

Another season has passed without a league championship and as Celtic close in on Rangers’ world record haul, time is running out to stay in front in the Old Firm legacy battle.

Several of the team’s first-team squad have had their final chance to make a difference at Ibrox and now is the time for a fresh approach as the club enters a new era.

But it’s not just those on the pitch that look set for a shake up as Philippe Clement tells the Rangers Board that he’s currently doing far too much.

Clement ‘doing too much’ at Rangers

Whilst Clement changed his tune on the state of the Rangers squad heading into the weekend – for the first time describing this summer’s job as ‘quite a rebuild’ – the circumstances surrounding the club have also come in for criticism.

Injuries are at the top of that list.

Rangers have been hamstrung by a series of high profile injury problems for the best part of two years, with only 8 of 30 players available for over 90% of league games this season.

There could be as many as eight players who miss the Scottish Cup Final this weekend.

But beyond the injury issues plaguing his team, the Rangers manager has also admitted that at the time being he is being stretched far too thin.

Insisting that things need to change, it suggests the Belgian is also looking to beef out his backroom staff heading into next season.

“There are several things I want to change and we are in talks about that at the club,” Clement told the press ahead of the 3-3 draw with Hearts.

“At the moment I think I am doing too much, it needs to be better delegated.

“Some things didn’t surprise me because the club was honest, but the injury issue has been bigger than I expected.”

Rangers staff set for re-evaluation

So far Philippe Clement’s only backroom appointment has been ex-Belgian teammate Stephan Van Der Heyden.

Van Der Heyden was Clement’s assistant at Club Brugge and the Belgian is the Rangers manager’s assistant in the Ibrox dugout.

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae was brought into the club during the interim stint of Steven Davis, but the Scotsman’s contract is up at the end of the season.

Clement has previously spoken very positively about the Scotsman but, like everyone else, no one’s place at Ibrox is assured next season.

With Colin Stewart the club’s resident goalkeeping coach, the comments from Clement about ‘delegation’ point to a helping hand being brought in this summer.

In the background of the club, the so-called recruitment board is headed by Nils Koppen and the Rangers manager, in theory, should have ample support in this regard.

Medically however the Rangers boss has pointed to regret over giving chances to people to prove they could stop the rot and one suspects this department in particular is heading for an overhaul.
